MYSTERY MURAL FIELD NOTES

Plan a mural for your group

Start with the people and the available wall space. The generator counts printable pieces, so a group of 22 people does not need a special 22-piece layout.

Choose pieces, then assign them

For 22 participants, choose 24 pieces and let two people complete a second sheet, or make the two extra sheets an organizer task. For a shorter activity, two people can share one piece. Keep a simple paper list of each person's piece ID rather than writing names into the artwork.

The available layouts keep every piece square. A 12-piece mural uses 4 columns and 3 rows. A 24-piece mural uses 6 columns and 4 rows. At the fixed 17 cm piece size, those finished murals measure 68 × 51 cm and 102 × 68 cm respectively.

Detail is a workload choice

Grid per pieceCells to colorGood starting use
8 × 864A simpler design or shorter activity
12 × 12144A balanced first attempt
16 × 16256A detailed design with more coloring time

These are not age ratings or completion-time promises. Test one piece with your materials and decide what suits your group. Some pieces contain mostly background while others have many color changes, so equal grid sizes do not guarantee equal effort.

Make one shared supply key

Pick a single red, blue, yellow and so on from the actual supplies you will use. Show those choices to the group before handing out sheets. The on-screen colors are approximate references, not brand-specific pencil matches. White always means leaving the paper uncolored.

Six colors keeps the supply list short. Eight or ten may retain more detail, but similar shades are harder to keep consistent across a group. Do not rely on color names alone if your supplies include several different blues.

Keep the surprise practical

Print the teacher answer separately and put it aside. Hand out only activity sheets. Set a place for finished pieces to dry, and preserve the ID strip until each piece is placed on the assembly map. If someone is absent, the organizer can complete the spare piece or another pair can share it.

Start with 12 pieces and the original rocket demo. Check the finished wall dimensions before moving to a large layout.
